About The Penobscot Bay Rendezvous

The Penobscot Bay Rendezvous is one of the world’s most beautiful regattas sailed where the mountains meet the sea off the lovely harbor towns of Thomaston, Camden and Rockland, Maine. Sailed every year for the last four years, it has given hundreds of sailors the time of their lives both with the racing and the epic onshore parties. It has proved to be one of the best events of its kind on the east coast. Last year’s partnership with LifeFlight of Maine was especially successful with more than $20,000 donated to the charity.

As anyone familiar with life on the coast of Maine knows, there simply are not enough weekends in August.  The area suffers from the happy burden of too many fun things to do and not enough time to take part in them all. With that in mind the organizers, sponsors, the beneficiary and participants believe that the path of a biennial event makes the most sense for the three-day sail and power event. With the stated mission to boost the local economy, a biennial event also will allow the committee to coordinate “feeder races” and get on the calendars of visiting yacht clubs. “Our event is established on the yachting calendar as a destination regatta drawing boats from all points,” said Shane Flynn, who with Cabot and Drew Lyman, is a presenting sponsor. “A biennial event gives the committee the time to organize and coordinate with out of state yacht and cruising clubs, LifeFlight and sponsors to present the memorable experience commensurate with expectations of past years.”

Much thanks and appreciation goes to presenting sponsor: Cellardoor Winery, Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, Megunticook Market and Wayfarer Marine; Admiral Sponsor: Bangor Savings Bank; Commodore Sponsor:  Allen Insurance and Financial, Partner Sponsors: Linda Bean Maine Lobster; Awlgrip; Billy Black Photography.
